Dashr vs Sprintbrick
Dashr sells laser timing gates that high school and college programs use for testing days. Sprintbrick replaces the gates with a sensor on your back and a receiver behind the start.
How Dashr works
Each Dashr gate is a laser on one tripod aimed at a reflector on another, across the lane. The clock runs from the moment you break the first beam to the moment you break the next. Two gates give you one time, so a 40 with a 10-yard split takes three gates and six tripods. Dashr sells two lines, Blue and Silver, and the two can't share a drill.
How Sprintbrick works
You wear a sensor on your lower back and set one receiver about 2 m behind your start. The receiver measures the distance to the sensor 100 times a second, and the iPhone app turns that into your start, splits at 10, 20, 30 and 40 yards and every 10 m out to 100 m, plus your top speed.
When we timed the same reps with OVR gates, every Sprintbrick segment after the first 10 m landed within 50 ms of the gates, 30 out of 30. The start is the weak spot: times that include it agree less well, and we're still working on them. The full results are on the OVR page.

Which to choose
For a roster testing day, Dashr suits you better. Athletes line up and go one after another, and the gates time whoever breaks the beams. Gates can also time shuttles and change-of-direction tests, which Sprintbrick can't, because its wearer has to run away from the receiver.
If you train alone or with a small group, Sprintbrick costs less and gives you more splits. Three Dashr gates for a 40 with a 10-yard split cost more than $1,000 and need six tripods lined up at measured marks. Sprintbrick gives that 40, the 10 and 20-yard splits and your top speed for $199, and you're ready once the receiver is down.
